The event is in memory of Justin Corbet, son of Ravenwood owner Ken Corbet, who died at the age of 23 in a motorcycle crash. Justin Corbet loved everything in the outdoors, and the Justin Corbet Foundation was formed to honor his memory and provide grants and outdoors activities for young people.
Activities this year will include laser shooting, archery, kite flyers, horseshoe pitching, black powder shooting, BB guns, fur harvesters, wrist rockets, Master Gardners and a booth from What’s in Outdoors, according to organizer Joanne Dow.
“New this year is the awarding of a Lifetime Kansas Hunting License to youths who have registered at this event or at the Topeka Boat and Outdoor Show,” Dow said. “The license drawing will be awarded at 2 p.m. We will also announce the grants awarded by the Justin Corbet Foundation to this year’s applicants. After these grants are awarded, the foundation will have awarded over $190,000 in grants from funds and donations raised at the annual Justin Corbet Memorial Shoot, which will be held on Sept. 7 this year.”
