The new Cheney State Park marina is set to open over Memorial Day weekend, according to a news release from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
The KDWPT credited a “quick response” from U.S. Congressman Ron Estes’ office in Washington with getting the marina open by Memorial Day. The building, which sits in Cheney State Park on Bureau of Reclamation land, had been renovated and was set to open, but negotiations on the new contract involving the BOR and KDWPT wasn’t complete.
“Thanks to fast action from Rep. Estes’ office and cooperation from Bureau of Reclamation staff, Cheney State Park visitors will enjoy the convenience of the marina this weekend,” KDWPT Park Division director Linda Lanterman said in the release. “We’re grateful to all who helped make this happen.”
Cheney Marina currently has food, drinks, ice and other camping and outdoor necessities, according to the release, and eventually will be a full-service marina with boat slips and gas pumps.
