Staff from the refuge and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism will be on hand, as will volunteers from Fishing’s Future, to teach kids the basics about fishing, including knot tying, casting, baiting hooks, identifying fish and boat safety, laws and ethics. Kids will have an opportunity to fish after the activities, with fishing poles and bait provided.
A free lunch will be provided by the Kirwin Lions Club, and kids will receive some free tackle for attending. There also will be a drawing for prizes.
