Brock Bila may have a new teammate this season, but it was much of the same last Saturday during the Kansas BASS Nation’s season opener on Hillsdale Reservoir.
The Louisburg native, representing Capital City Fishing Club, teamed up with Eli Minster to post a four-fish bag of 8.57 pounds to take first place in the 35-team field — nearly a year to the day after he teamed with Hayden’s Thomas Heinen to capture the 2017-18 season opener on Perry.
“It was not a good day of fishing, you had to really focus and put your head down to fish,” Bila said following the win.
Mason Chapman and Ryder Mains, representing Kickback Club, weighed 5.92 pounds for runner-up. Chapman is the son of 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series Angler of the Year Brent Chapman, who joined them in the boat as boat captain.
Bishop Carroll’s Chris Sanders, fishing solo, took third place with a bag of 4.88 pounds. DeSoto’s Brayden Brummer and Kolby Minor took fourth with 4.31 pounds and Capital City’s Kyle Simmons and Brett Halstead took fifth with 3.83.
