Bassmaster Classic: Several Kansans to compete in high school, college divisions

Two Kansas high school teams and two Kansas college teams will compete in their respective divisions at nearby Lake Keowee during this year’s Bassmaster Classic, which runs March 16-18 at Lake Hartwell in Greenville, S.C.

The team of Trevor Whisenant and Brett Lasley finished first in the B.A.S.S. High School Open last March at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri to qualify, while fellow Kick Back Bass Club members Zach Vielhauer and Remington Wagner finished second to also qualify. However, with Vielhauer and Wagner both being seniors last year, they were moved up to the college division, and each will be allowed to take a partner from their school fishing team as they now attend different universities.

Vielhauer, a freshman on the Kansas State fishing team, has chosen to team up with Will Andrie on March 18 at the Classic. Wagner, who fishes for Hutchinson County Community College, has elected to fish solo.

With those changes in the roster, Kick Back Bass Club was awarded an additional spot for a high school team from the club to fill the vacancy. It hosted a two-day qualifying tournament last fall for the spot, and the team of Jayden Vosseller and Garrett Torres received the berth for the March 17 high school tournament.
